Description

I like how the word Saimaa sounds and looks. More than just a lake, it’s the source of the river Vuoksa, whose waters flow through lake Ladoga and the river Neva before reaching the Baltic Sea, touching the shores of nine countries. This release follows a similar course: the original track turns into a stream of interpretations by artists from different places and scenes.

“Saimaa’s elegance set the tone — we just followed its flow.” — Suumhow

“The Finnish place name struck a chord with me — even though I’ve never seen the lake itself.” — Lackluster

“When I was asked to make a remix, I was on holiday in the mountains of Dombay, watching a cooking show. I said yes right away and got to work. At some point, a squirrel peeked into my bungalow — maybe that sense of ease and holiday spirit found its way into the remix.” — Anderdog

“I thought of a storm over a lake — endless lightning across the sky. That feeling shaped the remix.” — Access to Arasaka

“I made the remix in Altai, by the fast and powerful Katun river. The mix of nature and Saimaa’s nostalgic tone inspired me to add movement and lightness.” — Deekey

“Saimaa’s airiness meets an earthy, bubbling rhythm — a space where everything moves to one pulse.” — Man as Island

“I knew Saimaa was the name of a lake, but while working on the remix it became a robot from the future in love with a human. It wasn’t mutual, so I wrote him a sad robot jazz tune.” — madebyitself
